For example, a public mural about community cooperation may make residents feel proud of their neighborhood. Paul is right that art can challenge unfair traditions, but criticism is more powerful when it also shows a better future. Work that only shocks or angers an audience may push people away. In my view, art serves society best when it helps people imagine positive change and gives them energy to continue.
